Roughly how it will look
A generic body, not your pet's — the drawing follows your numbers, not your pet's shape. The real fit depends on the build and on the cloth.

How to measure
A wrong measurement ruins the fit. Use a soft tape, snug but not tight, while your pet stands naturally.
Around the narrowest part of the neck (where a collar sits). Leave room for one finger.
Around the widest part of the body, just behind the front legs. The key to fit — keep it loose.
From the base of the neck to the base of the tail. Sets the length — don't measure onto the tail.
Around the fullest part of the belly. Used for full-body styles.
From the armpit (top of front leg) to where you want the sleeve to end. Corgis & Dachshunds have short legs — measure this for a proper leg tube.
Measure twice and take the consistent value; for long fur measure at the skin; no tape? Wrap a string and measure it with a ruler.
After the pattern: how to sew
From printed pattern to finished garment. Make your first one from an old sheet.
Print & assemble
Print at Actual size / 100%; align by page number and tape the sheets into one big pattern.
Cut the fabric
Fold fabric in two, pin the pattern on top, cut along the orange line (seam allowance included).
Sew
Sew the sides along the seam line; hem the neck and bottom. Woven fabric? The back opens — hem the placket and add velcro.
Finish the edges
Fold raw edges in twice and stitch, so they don't fray in the wash.
Fit it on
Put it on your pet; if the fit is off, adjust the ease and remake.
